Design Movie Proposal

Executive Summary

This project required us to design a non-existing movie poster teaser. Creating a movie poster teaser should include the movie’s genre, the plot, the design hook, and the visual concept.

Project Goals

This goal I would want to archive is attracting my target audience attention and they would find it is interesting to watching after viewing my teaser poster.

Plot

The story is about a princess retrieving and rebels against a kingdom taken over by her stepmother, Queen Leque. The princess, Abigail was locked in the prison by Queen Leque and sealed her existence away because the queen had the ambition to become the king. The princess w       as tortured but she did not give up. In a night, Abigail had taken the chance to escape from the prison and reached to forest of death.
She meets with some mythical creature and guided her to a village that was tortured by the queen. Unfortunately the news of princess escaped spread through the region, the village was raid and no one survived. Princess was sent away unconsciously by the villager because she was the only hope to free the. After a few nights of journey, she finally arrived and gets to meet General Brockmen her existence and asked to form a rebel towards the queen. Quickly the general convinced the other general to gather their forces and attack the queen.

The next day midnight, they charged into the queen castle, all the generals secure the path for the princess to straight into the queen chambers.

Few battles ahead, the princess stabbed into the queen. The queen falls, and the kingdom was free from torturing. The princess succeeded the throne and married to General Brockmen’s son, Mason. 

The Design Hook

The story hooks are the determination of a weak princess that becomes a tough lady warrior to rebel and revive the kingdom. Many obstacles she gone through yet she still did not give up, such as tortured in the prison but still hold hopes that one day she could escaped and reform her troop, surviving in the forest of death that no one else could get out, witnessed the death of the village because of her existence, her courage and leadership as a women to convinced and lead the force charged into the castle.

Visual ConceptThe poster would portrait the princess determination to survive in the forest of death. Dark and mysterious mood show also that how much she suffered in the past. Besides, I got my inspiration from red Sonja movie poster and snow white and the huntsman.

Target Audience

Target Audience is mainly targeting people like female and male around 20-30. It would be suitable to any industries section where it doesn’t include any educational purpose. Consideration had made on the story plot, where these group of people would prefer mature and logical stories. In other words, majority of them could expose to maturity content.

I started with the character. Instead of illustration, I had replaced with photography. 

It was started with short hair and tube with long pants. I replaced it with scaled armour texture and sword on the hand. 

After that, I continue with the first sky scene and a few mountain. Slightly adjusted the sky contrast and level. I proceeded with the ground. I duplicate a few mud, and slightly distorted it because would make a view of perspective from front to far behind.

Added a few death trunks added following the perspective. Front would be bigger, and the back would be smaller. Continue adding group of crows, mushrooms and a few trunks blocking the sky.

Rejected Digital Painting Steps 1 ( Characther )

I started with the skin first of her back and face. I would preferred greyish skin instead of clean and fair skin. It shows the mysterious of the women back. I had slightly estimate the shadow where i would define the lights again when everything is done.

After colouring her skin, I continued it with the hair. Hair i chosen red scarlet colour for her long hair because it stands out the personality of her guts and loneliness that never ends.

I had proceded the fabric after her hair. I used a different type of brush to create torn effect on the fabric. The black was selected because i wanted to match it with the mood colour of the overall theme.

It will be very lonely, but surviving in the dark war.

Nothing else special, i continued with her hand and legs. I used dark colour to cover her legs to show the effect of dark transparency leggings she wore for the war.

After her everything done, i had drawn her sword. It look a bit hideous. But i will refer to more sword that would suitable to her. 

I had also adjusted a few angle of her to look more real and sophisticated with the sketches background. 

This is the finale draft that i would consider before I proceed to the background. 

I will improved on the visual, where it still look abit too drawing. I will make it more realistic after the background was done.

Poster Design Sketches

I had compose a few draft of Poster design. I tryout with exposing the faces of the actor, it was straight and told what type of movie. The first poster is about the princess in front, and the queen at the back posing a dominating pose. Moses and his father will be at the side showing a fierce look that they aren't willing to serve under the queen. Princess will be in innocent look, where that's the beginning of her, doesnt wants to fight, a little tiny princess which just hope for peace.

 

The second poster is about dividing half of the space, left side will be the queen and right side will be the princess. As for the backdrop, will be black feathers supporting the evilness of the queen, and white feathers brings the justice of the princess. 

After refer back to the poster, i felt the 2 poster are too straight foward as a movie teaser. So i decided to go for without the showing the face of the princess, reduced the number of character instead of showing few actor in the movie, I created the mysterious back of the princess holding the sword sheath with blood, wearing a defenceless torn fabric, staring at the castle to show the guts and endurance. I had selected this draft and proceeded to digital paint it.

I had done a few character design for the princess, i looked around for refereces, but alot of them are more mythical fantasy compare to war fantasy. This is a few inspired image i got:

I wanna potrait the princess by having a soft type of apperance but hard and strong dignity. So i chosen the 1st character design with long hair. Comparing the other short hair gives a impression of strong and tomboyish type of lady warrior. After considering the hair style, I will go through the fashion of the character with normal torn fabric rather then armour. It shows the women fought bravely even without proper defences. And yet she survived till the war ends.
